Zimmerman will not support a residential building code

As Sandusky County Commissioner, we have faced several challenges since I took office. Today, I am proud to say that Sandusky County is in a much better financial position than it was when I took office.

I can’t take all the credit; My fellow commissioners and I have worked well together to save your tax dollars through working with our partners and improving the efficiency of county government.

Over the past year or so there have been discussions about a residential building code. It was just that, discussions. At no time have we come close to implementing a residential building code. We collected feedback from many people, participated in open forums, and discussed the pros and cons of residential building codes.

At first it became apparent that there was very little support. As Commissioners, we listened to all talking points and agreed that no residential building codes should be implemented in Sandusky County. I will not and will not support a residential building code during my tenure as Sandusky County Commissioner.

While it is not uncommon for our political opponents to twist the truth for political gain, it is disappointing to see my position distorted to the public.

I believe that regardless of the idea, we should be able to have civil discussions on an issue and then make sensible decisions as we move forward. If you have questions about residential building codes or any other issues, I encourage you to contact me at [email protected]

I hope this clarifies my position on this issue and I appreciate the opportunity you have given me to serve you as Sandusky County Commissioner.

Russ Zimmerman,

Sandusky County Commissioner.
