The group expresses its dissatisfaction with the judgment of Judge Ekwo

Mar. 16 (THEWILL) — The 64 Development Centers Coordinators in Ebonyi State have expressed their displeasure with the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which sacked Governor David Umahi and his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe , for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Coordinators under the umbrella of the Development Center Coordinators Forum, who made their position known during a briefing to reporters on Tuesday at the former state executive chamber, Abakaliki, said the judge’s statement Inyang Ekwo on Umahi and his deputy was surprising and shocking.

Forum President, Hon. Beatrice Eze, who spoke on behalf of the coordinators, said it was surprising and shocking that Judge Ekwo, in his ruling, ordered the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to submit to INEC the names of people who have never stood for election to be sworn in – as governor and deputy, respectively, in place of a duly elected governor and his deputy.

“We call on the Court of Appeal to stand up immediately to protect the sanctity of our constitution by overturning the judgment of Ekwo, in order to avoid the danger that this judgment is capable of imposing on Nigeria’s hard-won democracy” , added the Forum.

The Forum, while expressing confidence in the impartiality of the judiciary, was optimistic that Judge Ekwo’s judgment would be overturned by the Court of Appeal.

“We are confident in the impartiality of the judiciary, which is why said judgment has been appropriately appealed; again, proving that Governor Umahi is an avid follower of law and legal frameworks,” the Forum noted.

The Forum further stated, “Governor Umahi is our Governor until 2023, as his defection to the APC did not violate any part or section of the Constitution or applicable laws.

They argued that no distraction from enemies, especially those who were trying unsuccessfully to take control of the office of the governor and his deputy, through the back door, would prevent the realization of Governor Umahi’s presidential ambition in 2023.

“Your Excellency, your party is our party, your next move, your glorious and triumphant entry into Aso Rock in 2023, is our collective mission that must be accomplished and this distraction from the enemies of the ‘New Ebonyi State’, which you have brought forth and fed certainly won’t hold water, but will end in praise as their decision to induct themselves into the seat of power through the backdoor is evidence of their disconnect with the base.

“Your Excellency, you have given Ebonyi a new song through your people-oriented policies and programs, evident in your giant developmental steps for which our unwavering support has come to stay with you as we cannot afford to” sing the song of the Lord in a foreign land. We hereby advise those who wish to fight Governor David Umahi, to first read about David in the Bible,” the Forum noted.

The Forum further commended the courage of many Nigerians who they believe have spoken out against the judgment, adding, “We assure these patriotic Nigerians that this honor and sense of nobility rendered in speaking out will not be abused. “.
