Spaceport Cornwall has been awarded ‘Educational Project of the Year’ as part of the 2022 Satcoms Innovation Group SIG Awards, in recognition of the Story of a Satellite exhibition held at Newquay Cornwall Airport l ‘last summer.

The Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG) works to promote innovation in the satellite communications industry. Aim to improve operational efficiency and reduce the impact of the evolution of the satellite ecosystem by fostering relationships between operators, manufacturers and solution providers. Provide a forum for debate, through workshops, events, social media and through the organizations News Hub.

Each year, some of the industry’s top organizations gather at SIG’s annual workshops to discuss innovation and current challenges facing the satellite industry.

The Spaceport Cornwall team was nominated for the annual SIG Award by SIG Advisory Board Member Martin Coleman, who felt that the effort put into the exhibit and the positive effect it had on families, visiting children and students deserved recognition.

The award was accepted in March 2022 by Martin on behalf of Spaceport Cornwall at a GIS workshop in Florida, and recently presented to the team here in the UK by Martin himself.

Martin Coleman, Satellite Innovation Group Advisory Board said, “The Educational Project of the Year award is vitally important. Without engaged students, the future of the satcom industry will come to a halt. Spaceport Cornwall received this award for its innovative approach in engaging students of all ages in space, building a strong future for the industry.”
