MULTIMEDIA ADDED Piston Group champions learn by providing employees with employer-sponsored training | Business

To solidify its efforts to create a culture of learning, Detroit-based Piston Group launched a strategic workforce training program for its US-based employees in partnership with InStride. Piston Group’s Education for the Future program will offer courses toward high school diplomas, trades certificates, associate’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees to help full-time employees expand their opportunities within the company.

Employees will be able to choose from a wide variety of curated course offerings to meet employees where they are at in their learning journey and career. Piston Group will cover tuition in advance each year, allowing employees to focus on advancement and success instead of payment.

“I know firsthand what it’s like to learn a new skill set and make a career change that propels your life forward,” said the former two-time NBA champion and founder and President of the Piston Group, Vinnie Johnson. “As a company, we want to encourage our employees to continually grow and adapt as the world of work changes.”

Piston Group includes Piston Automotive, Irvin Products (and their new acquisition A Lava & Son Co.) and Detroit Thermal Systems. These companies bring cutting-edge manufacturing and design expertise to their customers, delivering added value to consumers.

The Future-Ready Education program will initially encompass US-based company employees in Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Texas, joining other visionary companies supporting their employees and their families through workforce education. In the future, global Piston Group employees will also have the opportunity to participate in the training program.

“Piston Group demonstrates its commitment to the future of its employees and the value it places on the long-term strength of its business,” said InStride CEO Vivek Sharma. “Given the determination and passion that Vinnie showed as an NBA champion, it’s no surprise that he applies the same can-do attitude and energy toward the future of his employees at Piston. Group.”

InStride now has more than 40 corporate partners, including Aramark, Banfield Pet Hospital, Carvana, Labcorp, and Magna, as well as an organized network of quality global academic institutions, including Arizona State University, City University of New York School of Professional Studies and Kingsborough Community College, the University of Virginia, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Memphis, and Tecmilenio University.

Piston Group (composed of Piston Automotive, Irvin Products and their new acquisition A Lava & Son Co. and Detroit Thermal Systems) is headquartered in Southfield, Michigan. It designs, engineers, assembles and manufactures a wide variety of automotive parts and systems. Piston Group was founded in 1995 by industry mogul and former NBA champion Vinnie Johnson, and is one of the largest private minority-owned auto suppliers in North America.
