Farmamerica in rural Waseca will be hosting winter activities on Saturday, February 12 at the site grounds, 7367 360th Ave.

Winter Charm on the Farm is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Activities included horse-drawn carriage rides, free snowshoe rentals, a snowflake scavenger hunt, snow painting, woodcutting demonstrations and walking tours.

Winter Charm on the Farm participants who are Farmamerica members/season pass holders will not be charged for admission.

Events are offered in partnership with the Waseca Sleigh and Cutter Festival.

The festival parade is scheduled for February 19 at the Waseca County Fairgrounds.

Local Polar Plunge scheduled for February 5

The Polar Plunge fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota returns February 5 in St. Peter.

Attendees of the annual event at Hallet’s Pond have raised over $1,141,699 over the past 15 years.

Last year’s divers raised $49,044.

A new event is planned for those who don’t want to jump into a lake during the winter.

Teams/individual participants must register by noon on February 4 if they want a specific time slot to jump into the pond on the north side of Saint-Pierre.

MSU to Host Ideas Forum March 18

Minnesota State University professors will serve as presenters at a March 18 forum offered in the spirit of Ideas Worth Spreading.

The event is sponsored by the non-profit TED Talk and its popular TED Talk Series. MSU’s program is a local, self-organized event.

TEDxMNSU is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Centennial Student Union on the MSU campus. Its theme is “Big Ideas. Real world thinking.

Speakers include professors from MSU’s Department of Family Consumer Sciences, a registered dietitian and behavioral health provider who teaches at MSU, a professor emeritus from MSU’s Department of Art, and the director of the Center for Sport Psychology and MSU’s performance.

The TED Talk will provide general guidance for the Mankato program.
