Ebonyi women’s group petitions IGP for violation by Ebubeagu
Last weekend, a women’s group in Ebonyi State known as the Ebonyi Federated Women Organization (EFWO) petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, to the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and other human rights organizations over the alleged disruption of their August meeting by Agents of Ebubeagu.
The women consisting of Umuada Ebonyi Women, Ebonyi Widows Forum, South Eastern Women’s Association and Women Ministers of Urban Women’s Organization, among others, alleged that the officers invaded the venue. their meeting, the popular club premises along the Abakaliki -Enugu highway, and had disrupted them.
The women also alleged that their seats, awnings and even decorative items were confiscated by the officers and taken to their office in Abakaiki, the state capital.
They said this during a protest against the incident in Abakaiki, the state capital, noting that the theme of their interrupted meeting was “Women, nation builders”.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the President of Umuada Ebonyi Women, Ms. Charity Chukwuemeka, called the incident sacrilege and an attack on Igbo women and Igbo culture and urged the IGP and advocacy organizations of human rights to call security agents to order.
She said: “The hardworking and peace-loving women of Ebonyi State under the umbrella of the Federated Organization of Ebonyi Women were on this 20th August 2022 unjustly attacked, embarrassed and driven from the place. of their annual meeting in August 2022. was to be held at People’s Club Hall, Abakaliki.
“This heinous act was committed by the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, through his attack dogs, the Ebubuagu Security Team of Ebonyi State.
“It is not new or unfamiliar to the Igbo race that all women come together every August to discuss and map out the best possible ideas and development projects to improve the welfare and welfare of our people. .”
