… Act now before people get frustrated, Arewa Group tells Buhari, leaders in the North – The Sun Nigeria

Of Sola Ojo, Kaduna

A group, Arewa Development Forum for Peace and Justice, has instructed President Muhammadu Buhari and the leaders of the North to end the nefarious activities of the bandits terrorizing the region before people get frustrated and resort to self-help.

This was part of the group’s resolution at a meeting convened to deliberate on insecurity in Kaduana State and the North West yesterday.

A few days ago, terrorists invaded a mining site in the local government area of Shiroro, Niger State, killing several people, including soldiers, police and local militiamen, and kidnapping four Chinese expatriates. This came days after reports of alleged attacks and abductions of dozens of people in some villages in Kaduna, Kebbi, Niger, Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto states.

In a document signed by its chairman, Zubairu Mustafa, the group lamented the continued attacks and killings of Nigerians without any serious strategy on the part of security officers to end the trend.

He also supported Zamfara State Governor Bello Matagall’s call that people in his state should be allowed to legally acquire and use weapons to protect themselves against terrorist attacks in their communities.

The group condemned those who opposed Matawalle’s recommendation, particularly Chief of the Defense Staff General Lucky Irabor and elites, whom they accused of being frugal about the realities of kidnappings, killings and attacks on communities in and around the North West by bandits.

“This multi-faceted crime against the Nigerian state and Nigerians has continued to thrive without any serious strategy in place to end the challenge by security agents, but, instead, we are inundated with news of some senior officers from the echelons and security elites that they are not in favor of the public bearing arms to protect themselves. To us, these groups of Nigerians are openly thwarting the efforts of the Zamfara State government to to empower communities to acquire and bear arms legally to protect themselves against the rampaging terrorist invaders who have made peace impossible in their ancestral homes…

“For those who say it is not right and disastrous if citizens are allowed to protect themselves in self-defense against these bandits, then who supports or allows these invading bandits to continue to maim and kill using AKs -47 and other dangerous weapons in our region? Our leaders must act now or we will continue to be a target of elimination by minority marauders walking around with guns against the majority. If the government refuses to act now , they should know that when people get frustrated, they will look for the best option for themselves, which is to arm themselves.
